The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority announced on Monday the launch of San Diego Flyer, a free electric shuttle bus service between San Diego International Airport (SAN) and the Old Town Transportation Center.

The bus will operate every day, on average every 20 to 30 minutes. The shuttle service is designed to meet the first and last trams, Coaster, Amtrak trains and MTS buses. The first pick-up time is 4:45 am and the last pick-up time is 12:30 am (airport authorities).

"San Diego Flyer will provide a seamless connection between the airport and the old city transit center, ensuring that passengers can reach the airport in an efficient manner," said Kimberly Becker, president and CEO of the authority.

"This is one of the many ways the Airport Authority is working to improve passengers' access to the SAN, and we hope that passengers from the airport can take advantage of this free service."

The identification mark of the new shuttle bus is the light orange brand packaging, decorated with the airplane icon, the word "Flyer" and the SAN logo on the side of the bus. The bus stops at the Old City Transit Center, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

Passengers can be picked up and dropped off at the transportation island in each terminal. The airport authority will evaluate the stops and service intervals and adjust them as needed.

The service will be provided through six 2019 Endera E-450 electric vehicles equipped with air conditioning, luggage racks and ramps.
