Some of golf's biggest names are in Massachusetts this weekend for the LIV Golf Invitational in Bolton.

But as golf fans lined up to board shuttle buses on Friday, a group of protesters held signs like “Saudi money is blood money” for spectators to see.

The tournament, which has attracted big-name golfers to leave the PGA, is funded by an arm of the Saudi government.

“I'm outraged that's it's my town that's hosting a golf tournament that's funded by the terrorists and murderous regime in Saudi Arabia,” said Alice Rennie of Bolton.

“Golf should not be used to promote a government like Saudi Arabia that is doing these things in the world to people,” said Paul Garver of Acton.

Those attending the tournament say they're there to watch golf and are on board with supporting the local economy and said the problem is bigger than the tournament.

“Saudi oil money, you've got to pay for the oil to heat your house. I'm paying for the tickets to get into this thing, and they're going to heat their house,” one golf fan said.

“People have their own thoughts and opinions. It's golf, man. If people want to make it that deep … I'm just here to watch the best players in the world tee off,” said James Dubovick of Sterling.

The protesters condemn the Saudi's actions in Yemen, attacks on free speech and President Joe Biden's fist bump with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. They don't have a problem as much with spectators, they just want their voices heard.

“We do not condone collaboration with a murderous dictator like the crown prince,” Graver said.

Local business owners said they're happy the tournament is there. It begins Friday at 1 p.m.
