WARROAD, Minn. – A groundbreaking ceremony for a new, multi-use trail between Warroad and Beltrami Island State Forest is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, at the intersection of state Highways 11 and 313.

When complete, the 16-mile trail, originating in Warroad, will provide opportunities for a variety of outdoor recreation, including biking, birding, skiing, snowshoeing, running, walking and connecting with the forest on off-road motorized vehicles, according to a news release from Warroad Community Development.

WCD, in partnership with the city of Warroad, will host Tuesday’s groundbreaking ceremony. Local and state representatives, as well as representatives from sponsoring organizations, will be in attendance. The event is open to the public, and parking is available on the west side of the Wm. S. Marvin Training and Visitor Center parking lot, where ATV shuttle service will be provided to the trailhead groundbreaking location.

The event marks the start of work on creating a trailhead from Warroad to Beltrami Island State Forest, and the project is split into three phases:

This first phase is made possible by a Federal Recreational Trail grant and support provided by the city of Warroad, LifeCare Medical Center, Marvin, Polaris, Roseau County, Warroad Area Community Fund and Warroad Community Development.
