VANCOUVER, BC / ACCESSWIRE / October 6, 2022 / Vicinity Motor Corp. (NASDAQ:VEV)(TSXV:VMC)(FRA:6LGA) ("Vicinity" or the "Company"), a North American supplier of commercial electric vehicles, today announced that it has received an order from strategic partner Sustainability Partners LLC ("SP"), an ESG focused Public Benefit Company committed to eliminating deferred maintenance infrastructure by enabling sustainability, for four (4) Vicinity Lightning™ electric buses via Soderholm Sales & Leasing, Inc. ("Soderholm"), Vicinity's Pacific Islands distributor.

The Vicinity Lightning™ shuttle buses will be used at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, the largest airport in the State of Hawaii serving 12 million passengers per year. The State of Hawaii Department of Transportation will utilize SP's Electric Vehicles as a Service™ (EVaaS) program to finance the conversion of traditional government fleets to Vicinity's electric vehicles. Soderholm will facilitate the sale and provide long-term technical and maintenance support for the project. The order of four new electric buses is scheduled for delivery in 2023.

"As the State of Hawaii works to meet its sustainability goals and accelerate fleet electrification, our EVaaS program replaces outdated and costly fleet infrastructure with modern electrified solutions like the Vicinity Lightning™," said Thomas Cain, CEO & Founder of Sustainability Partners. "SP can pay for 100% of the purchase price while concurrently ensuring the vehicles are continually maintained in a state of good repair with embedded long-term support from SSL and Vicinity. We look forward to providing Hawaii and its largest airport an electric solution with a uniquely structured, month-to-month use-based service alternative to the traditional purchase of government fleets."

Gabi Soderholm of SSL added: "We look forward to supporting SP's EVaaS program and the integration of Vicinity's medium duty, accessible, ADA compliant, fully electrified low-floor shuttle bus into the Honolulu airport fleet. The transition to zero emission airport fleets will support not only Hawaii's sustainability goals but also serve as a powerful example of the benefits of EVs to the millions of passengers visiting our state each year."

"We continue to see significant interest from regional and international airports for EV passenger shuttle services given their inherent advantages," concluded William Trainer, Founder and CEO of Vicinity Motor Corp. "State and airport authorities are increasingly concerned by air quality impacts to local health from traditional gas and diesel buses at airport curbsides, exposing passengers to increased levels of air pollution. Today, over 40 airports in the U.S - including Honolulu - are participating in the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Airport Sustainability Plan to integrate sustainability into airport planning. Progressive airports are including a shift to cleaner shuttle bus options to reduce emissions and address community needs in their strategy."

Cannabis company posts wider loss, as revenue gets hit by currency losses, but CEO sees bright spots in Tilray's market share in Canada and Germany.

The upstart managed to buy time with investors this week by reaffirming its production target of 25,000 electric vehicles in 2022, despite continued supply chain problems and soaring raw material prices. In the three months to September 30, the company produced 7,363 vehicles, more than the 7,000 anticipated by RBC Capital Markets analysts. When we add these 7,363 units to the 6,954 vehicles that the group had produced between January and June, Rivian has already produced 14,317 cars.

To become a viable electric vehicle stock, Ford will have to prove one thing, and early signs are positive.

Rivian is now building its R1Ts, and despite the hiccups they have done the impossible by creating an extremely impressive vehicle from the ground up. But it needs to build them faster, cheaper, and more profitably to sustain itself. Here’s why car and truck fans should root for Rivian to do just that.

Auto maker says an improperly installed fastener could cause excess wheel tilt and a potential loss of steering control.

Chinese electric vehicle maker Nio will only lease its cars when it launches in four European markets this year, its CEO told Reuters on Friday, betting that flexibility will be a key selling point as drivers switch to the new technology. Users will be able to lease a car with a 75 gigawatt hour battery for 1,199-1,295 euros ($1,171-$1,264) a month depending on the length of the subscription, which can be as short as a month. The plan is the latest unconventional move by the company, which already allows customers to rent rather than buy the battery - the most expensive part of an electric vehicle (EV).

Electric vehicles (EVs) continue to be a hot topic for investors, but there are more players than ever to be aware of. While they aren't moneymaking machines yet, Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ: RIVN) and Proterra (NASDAQ: PTRA) are cheap for their own reasons. Trucks and SUVs typically have higher margins than cars, Rivian is building a delivery and service fleet without third-party dealers, and it hasn't had to do any advertising.

Federal authorities have issued a warning about a part of the tail in the type of seaplane that crashed in Washington state’s Puget Sound last month, killing 10 people. The Seattle Times reports that the Federal Aviation Administration has issued an emergency airworthiness directive concerning Otter seaplanes. Released Tuesday, the directive warned of potential cracks and corrosion in a part called the elevator, a movable surface of the horizontal tail that controls the plane’s pitch.

"Sabotage" targeting communications infrastructure was to blame for major disruption to the German railway network on Saturday, operator Deutsche Bahn said while the government said no motive had yet been identified.

Rivian Automotive Inc. intends to recall about 13,000 vehicles due to a possible safety issue that was so far found to have impacted several units, the company said Friday night.

California-based Rivian is recalling about 13,000 vehicles after it discovered that a fastener connecting the front upper control arm and steering knuckle may not have been "sufficiently torqued" in some vehicles, a company spokesperson said in a statement. Electric vehicle maker has so far produced a total of 14,317 vehicles this year. Rivian notified the affected customers about the recall after it became aware of seven reports potentially related to the structural issue of torqued fastener, the company said.

A bus caught fire after hitting a truck on a highway in western India early Saturday, killing at least 12 passengers, an official said. Another 43 people with serious burns were taken to a hospital in Nashik, a city in Maharashtra state, said police officer Bhagwan Adke. Most passengers were sleeping when the bus caught fire around 5 a.m. and the vehicle was completely burned, the Press Trust of India news agency said.

The auto makers are in talks to restructure the partnership, which is more than two decades old, and aim to announce a deal as early as November.
