Arlington's trash can debate: Innie or Outie?

When you put the trash can on the side of the road, which is the correct way to place it: Put your hands out or put your hands in? The debate broke out on Nextdoor, a site used by many Arlingtonians to solve important problems such as snake identification and noisy blowers.

Many people think that the description (handle) of the Arlington County website is not controversial. "Why don't you listen to the country's instructions?" At least one person exclaimed. However, it makes sense to take out the jar with the handle, and there are good reasons for this. After the dispute broke out, several residents asked the sanitation workers what they preferred.

"If the handle is facing outward, it is easier to grasp the handle," said a worker, who seemed pleased to be asked. Although the original reason for removing them with metal poles facing the street (and the wheels and handles facing the house) was for the truck to automatically lift the cans, many sanitation workers do not use lifts unless the cans are unusually heavy.

Arlington resident Steven Anders confirmed this, "I kind of feel that this is like a discussion about toilet paper "over or under". I did ask the collection team their preferences this week and he said "dispose."

Most spam sites also ask residents not to put the cans too close, but to line them up instead of putting some cans behind others.

Another adverb that always comes up when talking about trash: Please do not put plastic bags in the recycling bin or put recyclables in anything other than paper.
